Snappy Dance Theater
Founded in 1997, Snappy Dance Theater, a Boston-based contemporary dance company of seven performers under the artistic direction of Martha Mason, has grown rapidly to become the largest and most active contemporary dance company in Greater Boston. Now in its 10th year, the company
has toured to 18 States and was chosen as one of three US companies to perform at the “We Love Dance” Festival in Tokyo, Japan, in August 2004. In June 2004, the Celebrity Series commissioned and presented Snappy‘s “The Temperamental Wobble” at the Cutler Majestic Theatre. Last summer the company performed at the Open Look Festival in St. Petersburg, Russia along with Nai Ni Chen and Doug Varone. The company is just back from its first ever performances is France, where it received standing ovations and a very positive review.
The collaborative ensemble uses the diverse movement backgrounds of its members to stimulate and inspire audiences by creating an edgy, yet accessible style of dance for audiences of all ages and all backgrounds and, in the process, seeks to widen and change both young people’s and adults’ perception of dance. Incorporating athletics, gymnastics, circus skills, martial arts, vocal work, theater and dance into a fun-filled evening of meaningful entertainment, Snappy takes the audience on an emotional journey that is humorous, thought provoking, and filled with surprises.
